Wednesday at 5:20 p.m. on Peacock
EUGENE, Ore. - Rice alumna and Olympian Ariana Ince will be a part of history on Wednesday when she will don the red, white, and blue for Team USA at the 2022 World Championships, which are being held in the United States for the first time in history.
Ince, who will be competing in her third career World Championships, is one of three Americans that make up the 28-woman field. Ince will be throwing in Qualification Group A, which will get underway at 5:20 p.m. (CT). The competition will be streamed on the Peacock Network. The top 12 competitors will advance to Friday's finals, beginning at 8:20 p.m. (CT). Athletes can also advance if they hit the automatic qualifying mark of 62.50m.
Ince enters the meet ranked No. 27 in the world and posted a season-best mark of 62.74m at the Max Velocity Athletics High Performance Meet back on June 11 in Chula Vista, Calif.
Ince '11 began her Rice career in the pole vault under Rice head coach Jim Bevan where she was a C-USA champion in both 2010 and 2011 in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. During those two seasons, Ince also helped lead the Owls to consecutive C-USA Indoor titles.
She switched to the javelin her junior year and capped her career with a second place finish at the C-USA Championships as a senior while finishing 14th at the NCAA West Prelims.
