
Balandran Selected to C-USA All-Academic Team

DALLAS - Rice sophomore distance runner Alyssa Balandran was honored for her efforts both on the track and in the classroom on Wednesday (5/18) by being named to the 2022 Conference USA All-Academic Team.
Balandran, a native of Katy, Texas, holds a 3.91 GPA while double majoring in sports medicine and exercise physiology and psychological sciences. The sophomore was the 2022 Rice Scholar Athlete of the Year for women's cross country and has been named to the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll four times. In addition, Balandran has earned a C-USA Academic Medal three times and has twice been named to the Rice President's Honor Roll. Balandran is also a two-time Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award recipient.
At this past weekend's C-USA Outdoor Championships, Balandran scored in the 800m by finishing fifth overall in a time of 2:11.28. During the indoor season, Balandran was a member of the distance medley relay team that earned all-conference honors with a third place finish and also scored points while running the 800m (4th-2:10.80) and as part of the 4x400 (6th). Between both seasons Balandran won a combined four races, including the 800m at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight when she finished with a personal best time of 2:07.02.
The C-USA All-Academic Team is comprised of 11 female track and field athletes with a minimum grade point average of 3.2 and at least a sophomore class standing.
