
Simpson-Sullivan Named C-USA Field Athlete of the Week

DALLAS - Rice sophomore thrower Tara Simpson-Sullivan was named the Conference USA Female Field Athlete of the Week following her performance last weekend at the Roadrunner Invitational, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Making her first appearance of the outdoor season, Simpson-Sullivan won the hammer throw with a distance of 66.81m (219-2.00) on her fifth attempt at the Roadrunner Invitational. That mark ranks first in C-USA, seventh in the NCAA West region, and 10th in the NCAA. In addition, Simpson-Sullivan finished third overall in her very first discus competition, throwing 42.16m (138-4.00).
The C-USA weekly honor is the second of Simpson-Sullivan's career.
The Owls women's track and field team will compete in this weekend's 44 Farms Team Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M at E.B. Cushing Stadium.
