HOUSTON — Rice men's basketball coach Scott Pera announced Wednesday morning the signing of transfer Seryee Lewis to a grant-in-aid for the 2022-23 school year.
"Today I am thrilled to announce the addition of Seryee Lewis to our program," said Pera. "Seryee checks all of the boxes we look for in a student-athlete. He is motivated in the classroom and on the court. He will add value to everything we do as a program. As a player, he is very versatile and will add size, skill and athleticism to our front court. Please help me welcome Seryee to Rice University."
Lewis, a 6-9 forward, comes to South Main after spending the last two years at Kansas State. Lewis sat out last year after suffering a preseason injury.
As a freshman, he saw action in 18 games, all off the bench. He totaled nearly 100 minutes (98), scoring 36 points and grabbing 20 rebounds. He played double-digit minutes in four games, including a season-high 14 minutes versus No. 2 Baylor (12/19/20). Lewis connected on 62.5% from the floor. He scored in nine games, including a season-high nine points at No. 2 Baylor (1/27/21) on 4-of-5 field goals. He also scored six points vs. Jacksonville (12/21/20) on perfect 3-of-3 field goals.
Lewis grabbed at least one rebound in nine games, including a season-high five against Jacksonville (12/21/20). He scored in six of nine Big 12 contests.
A consensus three-star prospect out of high school, he starred at Compass Prep in Arizona. As a senior in 2019, he helped the head coach Ed Gipson to a 24-6 record, including a trip to the semifinals of The Grind Session World Championships in Benton, Ky. Lewis averaged a double-double with 13.2 points and 10.1 rebounds while adding 1.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game.
