Owls Complete Jam-Packed Weekend

Participated at three different meets
HOUSTON - The Rice Owls women's track and field team put the finishing touches on a busy weekend, completing action at three different meets across four days this week.
The Owls largest contingent traveled to Nacogdoches for the SFA Earl Milner Invitational, where the team picked up a pair of individual victories. Ginnie Okafor was victorious in the triple jump (12.26m) while KC Nwadei picked up another victory in the high jump (1.70m). Taigen Hunter-Galvan set a personal best time of 4:31.89 to place second in the 1500m to highlight the team's evening performance.
In California, throwers Erna Gunnarsdottir (shot put) and Tara Simpson-Sullivan (hammer throw) each qualified for the final in their respective events. Gunnarsdottir placed second overall with a throw of 17.17m while Simpson-Sullivan placed fifth (65.12m) after qualifying with a throw of 66.78m in the prelims.
Distance runner Lourdes Vivas de Lorenzi established a lifetime best mark 0f 35:15.92 in the 10,000m to start the week at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif.
Just a pair of weekends remain before the Conference USA Championships, which will take place May 12-15 in San Antonio. The Owls will host the annual J. Fred Duckett Twilight next Saturday, April 23 at Wendel D. Ley Track and Holloway Field.
