In Brief: Rice captured a pair of silver medals in the opening two relay events of the Conference USA Swimming & Diving Championships in Lynchburg, Virginia on Wednesday. After two events the Owls are in second place with 76 points, 12 behind defending champion FIU.
The Details: Rice opened the abbreviated first night schedule with Imogen Meers, Sini Koivu, Madison Howe, and Becca Evans turning in a 1:40.27 effort in the 200 medley relay. Virginie Qian, Shannon Campbell, Lauren McDougall, and Marta Cano-Minarro followed with a 7:15.58 clocking in the 800 freestyle relay to capture second place.
Seth Huston: "Strong first night. We had some swims to be proud of; great anchor swim by Becca Evans in the medley and Ginny Qian had a lifetime best leading off the 800 free relay."
Up Next: Three individual titles as well as another relay will be decided on Thursday at Liberty University's home pool. Rice will look to extend its streak of 500 freestyle champions to five while Cano-Minarro will look to reclaim the conference crown she captured in 2020 in the 200 IM. Conference titles will also be up for grabs in the 50 freestyle and in the 200 freestyle relay. Prelims for each event begin at 9:30 a.m. (central) while the race for gold is set for 5 p.m.
