Golf Opens Spring Slate at Border Olympics

HOUSTON — After a three-month break, the Rice Golf team opens its 2022 spring schedule at the prestigious Border Olympics. The tournament will be played at the par-72, 7,375-yard Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas.

TEAM FIELD
Leading the 15-team field are four teams in the latest Golfstat Top 50 in No. 17 Texas, No. 20 Illinois, No. 23 LSU, and No. 50 Baylor. Joining Rice in the field are Abilene Christian, Bowling Green, Houston, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana-Monroe, Michigan, New Mexico State, Sam Houston, and UTSA.

Harrison Hineline – No. 2 position … is in 10th-place since 1991 in career stroke average (74.87) and average vs. par (+3214) … has a stroke average of 74.17 … has participated in two events this year … two rounds of par or better … tied for 14th-place at the Bentwater Intercollegiate, where he fired a season-best 68 in the second round.

For Monday's first and second rounds, the Owls will tee off from the holes 13-17 at 800 a.m. CT. Rice will compete in groups with student-athletes from Bowling Green and Houston Baptist, as well as a group of individuals. Tuesday's tee times and pairings will depend on results following the previous round.

Following the Border Olympics, the Owls will return to the links Feb. 27-Mar. 1 at the Cabo Collegiate in Cabo, Mexico.
