Rice graduate has won pair of World Championships
HOUSTON – Rice University graduate Amanda Pasko has had a busy 2022 to say the least.
The Wellesley, Ma. native graduated from Rice in 2018 with a degree in Kinesiology and Sports Medicine (Summa Cum Laude honors) and is currently a first-year masters student studying nutritional epidemiology at the Harvard Chan School.
Outside the classroom, Pasko has continued her athletic career in style, winning the 2022 Icosathlon at the World Invitational back in early September by accumulating 10,148 points in the city of Delft in the Netherlands.
The icosathlon, which is also called the double decathlon, is a multi-event of track and field consisting of 20 events over two days. The competition consists of the 100m, long jump, 200m hurdles, shot put, 5000m, 800m, high jump, 400m, hammer throw, 3000m steeplechase, 110m hurdles, discus, 200m, pole vault, 3000m, 400m hurdles, javelin, 1500m, triple jump and 10,000m.
Earlier this past spring, Pasko also won the indoor tetradecathlon (14 events) at the 2022 World Championships, the equivalent of a double heptathlon.
"We are very proud to call Amanda one our own," Rice women's track and field head coach Jim Bevan said. "Amanda has always been a determined and hard-working athlete that commands the respect of all of those around her. She has also been instrumental in developing our nutrition center for our athletes. We have been very lucky and fortunate to have had Amanda here at Rice."
Pasko also played a vital role in helping establish the nutrition center this past summer at Tudor Fieldhouse and worked closely with Rice head of nutrition, Roberta Anding.
"I have known Amanda for the past seven years," Anding said. "As an athlete, she was interested in the role nutrition plays in athletic performance. While at Rice she was my student and my intern. Since graduation she obtained a master's in nutrition and is currently completing her hours to become a registered dietitian. Amanda spent the summer with me refining her sports nutrition skills while training for international competition. She met many of her track goals and used her experience in sports nutrition to fuel her excellence"
Pasko was the Margie Sass Award winner during her time at Rice, recognizing the highest GPA of a student-athletes on the women's track and field team. She competed in both the pentathlon and heptathlon
