
Rice Earns Top Seed; to Face Charlotte in C-USA Tournament

HOUSTON — After going undefeated and winning the Conference USA regular season championship, the Rice Soccer team will enter the Conference USA Tournament as the top seed, to be played in Charlotte, N.C., the league announced Saturday.
The Owls (11-7-0) will face eighth seed and host Charlotte (3-10-4) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 6 p.m., on ESPN+. Rice defeated the 49ers, 1-0, earlier this year.
Rice is looking to win its fourth overall Conference USA championship. It also took home the crown in 2005, 2014 and the 2020-21 spring season.
This is the third meeting between the two squads in the Conference USA Tournament, with the teams splitting the previous two meetings. Charlotte defeated the Owls, 1-0, in the 2017 quarterfinals but Rice earned a 2-0 victory in the 2020-21 Championship game.
Rice is 11-9-4 all-time in the Conference USA Tournament. The Owls are 6-3-1 against the tournament field.
