Golf Closes Fall Slate with Second Best Round at the Clerico

Tulsa, Okla. — The Rice Golf team shot the second best round of the day, moving up four spots to finish in fourth-place at The Clerico.
The Owls shot a five-over par 289, finishing 21-over par.
Freshman Henry Daly closed the tournament with a one-under par 70, tying for 13th-place at four-over. It is his team-leading seventh round of par or better this year and he became the first Owl to begin the season with four straight top-20 finishes since Jade Scott opened the 2009-10 season with six.
Graduate student Jay Kirchdorfer and freshman Lukas Boandl tied for 18th-place at six-over par. Kirchdorfer carded an even par 71, his fifth round of par or better this year and the 12th of his career, while Boandl posted a 73.
Junior Rodrigo Martin carded a 77 to tie for 24th-place at seven-over par and junior Blake Benson posted a 75 to finish 10-over par in a 41st-place tie.
South Alabama and New Mexico State tied at 12-over par with USA being award the team title base off the cumulative of the highest score. Oral Roberts' Brandon Hoff earned medalist honors at five-under par.

"There were really tough conditions in Oklahoma, but the guys really dug deep and ground out one of the best rounds of the day. It was a good experience for them and was some confirmation of their competitive character. Now we have some time to get to work on some things as we go into the offseason."
