
Lopez TTFCA Hall of Fame Induction Set for Jan.7

WYLIE, Texas – Legendary Rice head coach Victor Lopez will be inducted into to the Texas Track and Field Coaches Association (TTFCA) Hall of Fame on Friday, Jan. 7 at the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, Texas as a member of the class of 2022.
Announced on Aug. 8, 2021 as an inductee, Lopez will join a group with a combined 14 members between the 2021 and 2022 classes. The ceremony is open to the public, as well as media members. The ceremony begins promptly at 7:30 p.m. at 100 Great Wolf Dr., Grapevine, Texas 76051.
Lopez is regarded as one of the most respected teachers in the sports of cross country and track & field. He started the Rice University women's cross country and track & field program and is a USTFCCCA Hall of Famer, as well as member of the Rice Hall of Fame.
He began his career with the Owls in 1980 and led Rice to five Top-10 NCAA finishes as head coach. Furthermore, Lopez's athletes at Rice garnered over 150 All-American honors and collected 17 individual national championship titles.
Lopez led the Owls to 10 conference titles, which included three cross country championships. Under his guidance the Owls won three consecutive WAC indoor titles from 2000-02 and won consecutive WAC outdoor titles in 2000-01 and 2003-04.
Lopez retired from Rice at the conclusion of the 2005 season and each year the Owls honor him by hosting the Victor Lopez Classic.
