SETTING THE SCENE
The Owls (7-5, 2-0) started C-USA action off on the right foot last weekend, sweeping a road series at North Texas. Rice has now won seven of their last nine matches overall and are still receiving votes in the latest AVCA Top-25 Poll.
Rice returns to Houston this weekend for a pair of matches against the UTEP Miners at Tudor Fieldhouse, where the Owls are 4-2 this season. The Owls have dominated the all-time series against the Miners, 43-10, and have won the previous eight meetings.
UTEP will be playing their first C-USA matches of the season after going 11-2 in the non-conference portion of their schedule. The Miners rank 31st in the NCAA this season in hitting percentage (.263) and are 32nd in kills per set (13.76). In addition, the Miners currently 13th in the country in total service aces (101) and 15th in aces per set (2.02). The Miners, who are out to their best start in program history, are hitting .263 as a team and are led offensively by Serena Patterson (161 kills/3.22 per set).

- Dating back to 2014 the Owls are 82-20 (.803) in Conference USA play, which includes a 39-3 (.928) record the last three seasons. Rice went undefeated (12-0) in league play for the first time in program history this past spring.
- The Owls currently rank 23rd in the NCAA in kills per set (13.93) and 24th in assists per set (12.78).
- Senior outside hitter Nicole Lennon ranks second among active NCAA Division I players in career kills with 1,913, trailing only Baylor's Yossiana Pressley (2,108). Lennon is also approaching the Rice school record for career kills, which is held by Rebeca Pazo (1,969 kills), who played from 2001-04. This season Lennon ranks 23rd in the NCAA in kills per set (4.44) and is 12th in attacks per set (12.49).
- Junior setter Carly Graham is second among C-USA players in assists per set (10.60), which ranks 36th in the NCAA.
- The Owls played a rigorous non-conference schedule, facing four teams ranked in the Top-11, including No. 1 Texas and No. 2 Pittsburgh.
