Golf Opens 2021-22 Campaign at Jim Rivers Intercollegiate

HOUSTON — After seeing its fall season canceled last year due to COVID-19, the Rice Golf team will begin the 2021-22 season, Sept. 12-14 at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate in Choudrant, La.
TEAM FIELD
Joining Rice in the field are Abilene Christian, Little Rock, Central Arkansas, Francis Marion, High Point, Houston, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, LSU, Middle Tennessee, South Alabama, Southern Miss, Chattanooga, UT Arlington, Troy, ULM, UTSA and WKU.

Thomas Bockholt III – No. 1 position … participated in five tournaments … had a stroke average of 77.79 … had his best finish of the year at the Rice Intercollegiate (1/25), tying for 32nd-place … carded a season-low 71 in the final round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic, tying for 48th-place place (4/5-6).
Forrest Park – No. 2 position … participated in two tournaments … averaged 77.00 strokes per round … carded a career-low 73 in the first round of the season-opening Rice Intercollegiate, where he had the best finish of his career, tying for 26th-place.
Raghav Chugh – No. 3 position … No. 1 ranked junior player in India...carded a trio of 71's to finish runner-up at the 2020 Champions Link Challenge...earned a five-stroke victory at the 2019 U.S. Kids Golf World Teen Championship at Pinehurst No. 2...on the year, picked up five victories, including three to finish the year at the IGU Western India Junior Boys Championship, the Northern India Juniors Championship and the All India Juniors, which he won for the second straight year.
Jack Diamond – No. 4 position … participated in five tournaments … had a stroke average of 76.50 … three rounds of par or better … tied for 32nd-place at the season-opening Rice Intercollegiate (1/25) … recorded his first career top-10 finish at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic (4/5-6), tying for seventh-place … fired a career-low 69 in consecutive rounds … also set career-bests for low 36-hole score (142) and low 54-hole score (211) … carded a 72 in the second round of the Aggie Invitational (4/9-11).
Jake Benson – No. 5 position … 2020 First Team All-Conference USA ... Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar ... o Is fifth since 1991 in career stroke average (74.06) and average vs. par (+2.46) ... third with 42 rounds of par or better … One of four golfers to participate in all eight team events ... third on the team with a 76.00 stroke average … recorded one top 20 finish ... tied for the team lead with six rounds of par or better … led the squad with four rounds in the 60's ... had a season-best tie for 16th-place at the Bayou City Collegiate Classic (4/5-6) … fired a season-low 69 four times … tied for 31st-place at the Conference USA Championship, where we closed with consecutive rounds of 69.
Blake Benson – Individual … transfer from Seattle where he redshirted last year … owns the school record at Westlake High School in Austin for an 18-hole tournament, firing an eight-under 63 as a sophomore in the 2017 Lake Travis Shootout...qualified for the 6A Texas State Championships in 2019...competed in a number of tournaments held by the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA)...as a senior, he earned pair of Top 20 finishes, a 17th place finish in a field of 54 at the AJGA Jordan Spieth Open, followed by 12th in a field of 94 in the 2018 AJGA Junior Championship at Sugarloaf.

The Owls will tee off from hole No. 10 with an 8:20 a.m. CT shotgun start. Rice will compete in groups with student-athletes from Chattanooga, Lamar and a group of individuals.
