Fokam Places 6th at U.S. Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Oregon - Rice senior All-American Michelle Fokam advanced to the finals of the triple jump before placing sixth overall at the U.S. Olympic Trials Sunday evening at Hayward Stadium.
The Katy, Texas native, who will also be competing in the long jump on June 24, posted a series of 12.90m, 13.48m, and a foul to earn three additional jumps. In the finals, Fokam recorded marks of 13.56m, foul, and 13.62m on her final attempt.
Keturah Orji won the event by setting a meet record of 14.52m while Tori Franklin (14.36m) and Jasmine Moore (14.15m) placed second and third, respectively.
Fokam qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships where she placed third overall and earned First Team All-American honors in the triple jump. Fokam was fifth at the NCAA West Prelims and selected the C-USA Female Field Performer of the Meet for a third consecutive outdoor season after winning both the triple jump (13.60m-school record) and long jump (6.47m) at the C-USA Championships. The titles were the 9th and 10th of her illustrious career.
