DALLAS - Rice senior jumper Michelle Fokam and freshman distance runner Grace Forbes were named the Conference USA Female Outdoor Field and Track Performers of the Meet, respectively, following their combined five gold medals and 50 earned team points at last week's C-USA Outdoor Championships in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
It marks the third consecutive outdoor season that the Owls were represented in both categories with Fokam winning her third consecutive (sixth overall) C-USA Field Performer of the Meet. Fokam won a pair of gold medals, the ninth and 10th of her illustrious career, capturing the triple jump crown with a school record leap on her final attempt of 13.60m for her third straight victory in the C-USA Championship event. Fokam also won the long jump with a mark of 6.47m (21-2.75).
Forbes was named the Female High Point Scorer of the C-USA Championships, as well as the C-USA Female Freshman of the Meet, earning 30 points and claiming three titles. Forbes began the meet by winning the 10,000m with a C-USA Championship record time of 33:50. She then followed that up with another championship record time of 4:14.42 to win the 1500m, before concluding with a victory in the 5000m in a finish of 16:19.82. The Track Performer of the Meet award was the third of Forbes' career, having already received the recognition at the 2020 and 2021 C-USA Indoor Championships.
Both Fokam and Forbes will be among six Owls on the women's side at next week's NCAA West Prelims in College Station. Fokam will be competing in both the long jump (Thursday, May 27, 3 p.m.) and triple jump (Saturday, May 29, 3:15 p.m.) while Forbes will be running in the 10,000m (Thursday, May 27, 9:10 p.m.).
