Forbes Wins C-USA Track Athlete of the Week

Met Olympic Trials standard in 10,000m
DALLAS – Rice distance runner Grace Forbes was selected as the Conference USA Female Track Athlete of the Week on Friday following her record-breaking performance at last week's Sound Running College Invite.
Forbes, who earned her four career C-USA weekly honor between track and cross country, made her outdoor debut late last Friday in Riverside, California and broke the 10,000m school record with a time of 32:24.38 to take home first place honors. The school record was Forbes' fourth already as an Owl.
Even more impressive, Forbes bested the Olympic Trials qualifying standard time of 32:25.00. To meet the standard, Forbes needed to run a sub-5 minute final mile and did so with a final stretch of 4:58.10. Her time was the second-fastest mark ever by a freshman in the 10,000m (Dorcas Wasike, Louisville, 32:11 at 2008 NCAA's) and the fastest ever by a freshman in a regular season race.
Forbes broke Becky Wade's previous school record of 32:40.82 by nearly 16 seconds and claimed the top time in the NCAA this season.
Forbes and the No. 29 ranked Owls are in College Station this weekend competing at the Texas A&M Invitational.
