Senior won long jump, triple jump at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight
DALLAS - For a second time this outdoor season, and the eighth time in her stellar career, Rice senior jumper Michelle Fokam was named the Conference USA Female Field Athlete of the Week.
The Katy, Texas native shined brightly for the No. 14 ranked Owls last weekend at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight, winning both the long jump and triple jump. Fokam set a PR of 6.75m (22-01.75) in the long jump, which would have been a school record if not for being wind-aided (+2.5 mph). Nonetheless, the leap ranks fifth in the NCAA this season. She then followed up that performance with a victory in the triple jump, going 13.45m (44-1.5). Fokam has now recorded five individual victories this outdoor season, four of which have come in the triple jump.
Fokam and the rest of the Owls will be competing in College Station this Saturday, May 1 at the Texas A&M Alumni Muser. The meet is scheduled to be streamed on SEC Network+.
