Owls Ranked No. 14 in USTFCCCA Top-25

Highest ranking since TFRI debuted in 2008
HOUSTON - The Rice Owls women's track & field team is ranked No. 14 in the country in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Rating Index, which was released on Monday.
The ranking is the highest by a Rice women's team since the USTFCCCA Track & Field Rating Index debuted in 2008. The Owls climbed up 15 spots from No. 29 in the rankings last week with a stellar team performance this past weekend at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight.
Rice is led by senior jumper Michelle Fokam, who ranks No. 5 in the NCAA in the long jump (6.75mW) and is No. 7 in the triple jump (13.52m). The Katy, Texas native has contributed 43.57 of Rice's 121.94 team points on the USTFCCCA points scale. Freshman distance runner Grace Forbes holds the No.1 ranked 10,000m time (32:24.38) in the NCAA and is also now ranked No. 10 in the 1500m (4:14.16) after her record time on Saturday at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight.
The Owls also possess three of the top throwers in the country in freshman Tara Simpson-Sullivan, sophomore Erna Gunnarsdottir, and sophomore Julie Perez. Simpson-Sullivan moved into No. 3 in the country in the hammer throw after breaking the school record yet again on Saturday with a throw of 68.91m. Gunnarsdottir is ranked No. 20 in the shot put (16.72m) while Perez comes in at No. 36 in the discus (53.79m).
The Rice women have concluded an outdoor season ranked in the Top-25 in 14 seasons since 1983.
