Owls Win Four Events at UH Spring Break

HOUSTON - Making their third appearance of the outdoor season, the Rice Owls women's track & field team picked up four individual victories at Thursday's UH Spring Break Invitational.
Senior Michelle Fokam picked up her third triple jump victory of the year with a distance of 13.27m (43-06.50) while also placing third in the long jump (5.94m/19-6.00). Also victorious in the field events was Tara Simpson-Sullivan in the hammer throw, throwing just slightly under her season-best mark with a heave of 64.47m (211-06.00).
In addition to Fokam and Simpson-Sullivan, the Owls received victories from Kendall Gustafson (HJ-1.65m) and Natalie Goddard (2000m steeplechase-7:33.61). Rice also got second place finishes from Emily Harrison (PV-3.55m), Johanna Bangala (400m-55.97), and Taigen Hunter-Galvan (800m-2:19.63).
Also in the jumps, transfer Maryam Hassan placed third in the triple jump (12.15m/39-10.50) and fifth in the long jump (5.69m/18-8.00).
