Owls Close out Play at Louisiana Classics

Lafayette, La. — The Rice golf team carded a final round 297 to finish 11-over par and tied for sixth-place at the 36th annual Louisiana Classics.
The Owls tied for sixth with UMKC and Southern Illinois. No. 5 Illinois won the team tournament at 41-under par, a tournament record 38 strokes in front of Louisiana-Lafayette.
Junior Harrison Hineline and freshman Rodrigo Martin tied for 16th-place at one-over par. Hineline carded a 75 while Martin shot an 80. It is Hineline's first top-20 finish of the season and second of his career and Martin's second top-20 finish of the season.
Senior Jake Benson tied for 31st-place at four-over par after closing with a 73 to finish with a season-low 54-hole score of 220. Senior Rishi Kejriwal posted a 76 to tie for 65th-place at 12-over par.
Sophomore Thomas Bockholt III posted his best round of the season, carding a 73 to finish in a 67th-place tie while junior Campbell Gibson posted an 86 to finish in 81st-place.
Illinois' Jerry Ji earned medalist honors at 13-under par, four strokes in front of teammates Adrien Dumont de Chassart and Michael Feagles.

Rice will take two weeks off before returning to the links, Apr. 5-6, when it co-hosts the Bayou City Collegiate Classic at Westwood Golf Club.
