Rice Finishes Day One at Cabo Collegiate

San Antonio, Texas — The Rice golf team began play at the Cabo Collegiate, finishing with a team total of 319 to end the day in 15th-place.
Senior Jake Benson paced the Owls in a 33rd-place tie after carding four-over 76. Junior Harrison Hineline finished with a seven-over par 79 to sit in a tie for 57th-place.
Senior Rishi Kejriwal is tied for 74th-place after posting an 81 while freshman Rodrigo Martin carded an 83 to sit in an 80th-place tie.
Freshman Rodrigo Martin led Rice in a tie for 21st-place at six-over par. He fired a second round 72, his first career round of par or better, before closing the day with a 73.
Juniors Austin Escamilla and Jack Diamond are in 83rd and 88th-place, respectively. Escamilla posted an 85 while Diamond carded a 90.
No. 7 Oklahoma leads the team tournament at one-under par, eight strokes in front of No. 15 Texas A&M. OU's Patrick Welsh, the 71st-ranked player by Golfstat, leads the individual tournament at three-under par. Three players are in a tie for second-place at one-under par.

The second round begins tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. Rice will compete in groups with student-athletes from Abilene Christian, Houston and Stanford. Wednesday's tee times and pairings will depend on results following the tomorrow's round.
