
Forbes Named C-USA Track Athlete of the Week

DALLAS - Rice sophomore distance runner Grace Forbes was named the Conference USA Female Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
The Wallingford, Pa. native won her third career C-USA weekly honor by setting both a meet and school record in the 5000m last weekend in her season debut at the Charlie Thomas Invitational, winning with a time of 15:50.38.
Forbes bested Becky Wade's previous school record of 16:03.13 set in 2012 and smashed the former meet record (16:13.71) held by Texas A&M's Grace Fletcher in 2012. Forbes' time of 15:50.38 ranks fifth in the NCAA this indoor season and will likely be good enough to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships, which will be held March 12-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
Rice track & field will be compete at the Unconventional Rice Invite this Friday before traveling to Birmingham, Ala. for the C-USA Indoor Championships Feb. 20-21.
