Recognizes excellence in community, classroom, character, and competition
DALLAS - Rice Volleyball outside hitter Nicole Lennon has been named as one of 30 candidates for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, the organization announced on Thursday (10/7).
This marks the second straight year Lennon has made the Top-30 for this particular award. To be eligible for the honor, nominated candidates must be a Division I senior or graduate student and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character, and competition.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Lennon has already etched her name throughout the Rice record book and is closing in on the all-time kills mark. She has twice been named the C-USA Player of the Year and last season was recognized as a 2020-21 AVCA All-America Third Team selection. She currently ranks second among all active NCAA Division I players in career kills (1,945) and total attacks (5,154) and is one of only five active players with over 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs (1,332).
In the classroom, Lennon has twice been named to the C-USA All-Academic Team and last year was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. Lennon has been very active in the community, assisting with The FORGE for Families and Houston Food Bank, as well as spending time as a Peer Wellbeing Athletic Advisor.
The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists later in the season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the acronyms.
