Student-Athletes Earn Highest Cumulative GPA in History

HOUSTON, Texas – Rice student-athletes compiled the highest cumulative GPA ever recorded, the athletic department announced Tuesday morning. Overall, student-athletes recorded 3.307 combined cumulative GPA through the first semester of the 2019-20 academic year.
In addition, women's swimming (3.585), men's basketball (3.248) and football (3.089) all recorded their highest ever GPA.
Rice Athletics will honor its student-athletes on Tuesday night when the annual Night of the Owl awards ceremony moved to a virtual Night of the Owl configuration. Follow @RiceAthletics on Twitter a 7 p.m. to join the festivities. Awards for Male and Female Scholar-Athlete, Male and Female Newcomer of the Year and Assistant and Head Coaches of the Year will be announced, culminating in the announcement of the Joyce Pounds Hardy and Bob Quin Awards.
