HOUSTON — Rice men's basketball coach Scott Pera has announced Wednesday morning the signing of Noah Hutchins (Buffalo, N.Y.) to a national letter of intent for the 2020-21 school year.
Hutchins, a 6-0 guard led IMG Academy to a 19-7 record. At the Park School in Amherst, N.Y., Hutchins led the Pioneers to a pair of Monsignor Martin and New York State championships. As a senior, he averaged 23.4 points, 7.2 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 steals in leading the Park School to a 25-3 record. He was named the Monsignor Martin Player of the Year, First Team All-State and the Buffalo News Player of the Year, as well as being a McDonald's All-American nominee. In his career, he scored over 1,000 points, averaging 20.6 points, 5.5 assists, 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals.
"Today I would like to welcome Noah Hutchins to our 2020 recruiting class," said Pera. "Noah brings all the attributes we look for in a Rice basketball player. "He is a high character young man that strives to be great on the court and in the classroom. He had an accomplished high school career at The Park School in Buffalo, N.Y., and spent a post-graduate year at IMG Academy in Florida playing with and against high-level competition. His skill set fits our system perfectly and he brings toughness and athleticism as part of his game as well. He joins 2020 classmates Cameron Sheffield and Mylyjael Poteat to form a freshman class that will have a huge impact on our program the next four years and beyond."
Hutchins joins Mylyjael Poteat (Reidsville, N.C.) and Cameron Sheffield (Alpharetta, Ga.) and transfer Riley Abercrombie (Wollongong, Austrailia/Boise State) in the 2020-21 signing class.
