BOSTON - Looking to earn an NCAA Indoor Championships qualifying time in the 3000m, Rice freshman distance runner Grace Forbes rose to the occasion and then some at Friday's Boston University Last Chance Invitational.
Seeded 20th in the NCAA coming into Friday, Forbes blazed her way to a school record-breaking time of 8:56.82 to finish second overall out of 15 competitors and only tenths of a second behind Nike's Jessica Hull (8:56.61). Forbes shattered the school record formerly held by Katie Jensen (9:05, 2017) and set a C-USA record as well. With her time, Forbes rose to eighth in the NCAA rankings with the top 16 qualifying for the NCAA Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico Mar. 13-14.
Earlier on Friday, Forbes was named the C-USA Female Track Performer of the Meet after winning both the 3000m and mile at last week's conference championships.
