Fokam, Forbes Named C-USA Performers of the Meet

DALLAS - Rice junior jumper Michelle Fokam and freshman distance runner Grace Forbes were each recognized on Friday for their stellar performances at last week's Conference USA Indoor Championships, earning the C-USA Female Field Performer of the Meet and the C-USA Female Track Performer of the Meet, respectively.
Fokam secured her third consecutive C-USA Field Performer of the Meet award (fifth overall) by winning the triple jump and placing second in the long jump, earning 18 total points. The victory in the triple jump was Fokam's eighth career C-USA title, breaking her own indoor school record with a distance of 13.32m (43-8.5), which ranks 12th in the NCAA. She also established a season-best mark of 6.19m (20-3.75) in the long jump, which is tied for 28th in the NCAA.
Forbes joins Katie Jensen (2017) and Cali Roper (2015-16) as the third Owl to win C-USA Track Performer of the Meet honors since 2015. Forbes had a weekend for the ages, helping lead the Owls to a C-USA Championship by winning both the 3000m and mile titles. Forbes was the High Point Scorer of the Meet and named the C-USA Freshman of the Meet by leading all competitors with 20 points. Her time of 4:40 in the 3000m ranks 36th in the NCAA, as she beat the next closest competitor by 22 seconds. Forbes finished the mile in 4:40.05, which was eight seconds faster than the second place finisher.
