Forbes Repeats as C-USA Track Athlete of the Week

DALLAS - For a second straight week, Rice freshman distance runner Grace Forbes was selected the Conference USA Female Track Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday. Forbes joins Hannah Jackson (2018) and Claire Uke (2015) as the only Owls to become repeat C-USA Athlete of the Week winners during the indoor season.
The Wallingford, Pa. native recorded the 11th-fastest 3000m time in the NCAA this season with a winning performance of 9:13.64 at the Charlie Thomas Invitational, hosted by Texas A&M. Forbes has won all three races she's participated in this indoor season and improved her time by nearly 14 seconds in the 3000m from the season opener on Jan. 17.
As of Tuesday, she currently holds the top freshman time in the NCAA in the mile (25th overall-4:40.69) and the second-fastest freshman time (11th overall-9:13.64) in the 3000m.
The Owls will be competing at the Howie Ryan Invitational this Friday, Feb. 14 at the University of Houston's Yeoman Fieldhouse in the final tuneup before next week's (Feb. 22-23) C-USA Indoor Championships.
