WT&F: Owls Compete at FasTrack Invitational

Gunnarsdottir wins shot put
HOUSTON - The Rice women's track & field team sent eight athletes to compete at Saturday's FasTrak Invitational, hosted by the University of Houston at Yeoman Fileldhouse. Leading the way for the Owls was sophomore thrower Erna Gunnarsdottir, who recorded her second victory of the indoor season with a winning throw of 15.38m in the shot put.
The Owls also received top-three performances from freshman Tara Simpson-Sullivan (2nd-17.36m) and sophomore Julie Perez (3rd-17.08m) in the weight throw. Sophomore Calista Ukeh (14.72m) placed sixth in the same event.
Rice also debuted their vaulters, led by senior Kylie Swiekatowski's fourth place finish with a clearance of 3.65m. Freshman Audrey Ho finished sixth with a clearance of 3.50m while Ali Goodson (3.50m) and Emily Harrison (3.35m) placed seventh and ninth, respectively.
The Owls will be back at UH next weekend for the Houston Invitational, Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
