
Racasan Earns Jim Castaneda Postgraduate Scholarship

IRVING, Texas – Rice track and field graduate Elsa Racasan is one of 14 recipients of the Jim Castaneda Postgraduate Scholarship, awarded by Conference USA Monday afternoon.
The conference annually awards the $4,000 postgraduate scholarships to student-athletes selected by the C-USA Faculty Athletics Representatives and approved by the Board of Directors.
Racasan recorded two bronze finishes at the 2017 C-USA Indoor Championships in the mile and the 3000-meter, and qualified for the NCAA South Central Region Cross Country Championships in 2016 where she placed 24th. A May 2019 graduate with a 4.1 GPA in kinesiology, Racasan has been accepted to Rice's MBA program.
This is the 11th year the award has been named for Dr. Castañeda, who served Rice University for 46 years as an educator, coach and faculty athletics representative before passing away in Novemeber 2008.
