Duo combined for three titles
DALLAS - For a second straight year, Rice juniors Michelle Fokam and Hannah Jackson were named the Conference USA Female Outdoor Field and Track Performers of the Meet, respectively, following their stellar performances at last week's C-USA Outdoor Championships in Charlotte.
Fokam swept the triple jump and long jump titles, giving her back-to-back victories in each outdoor event in consecutive seasons. Needing to beat 13.42m on her final attempt, Fokam set a lifetime best mark with a jump of 13.48m (stadium record), which currently ranks 13th in the NCAA. She also won the long jump title with a mark of 6.27m (stadium record) and ran a leg on the 4x100 relay. In total, Fokam garnered 20.5 points in helping the Owls place third overall as a team.
Jackson, who shared her honors with UAB's Emily Drouin, won her third career C-USA title by winning the 200m dash with a school record time of 23.16, which ranks 23rd in the NCAA West region. She also earned all-conference honors with a second place result in the 200m dash and ran the anchor legs of the Owls' 4x100 relay, which placed seventh, and the 4x400 relay.
Both Fokam and Jackson will be among eight Owls at next weekend's NCAA West Prelims in Sacramento. Fokam will be competing in both the long jump (Thursday, May 23) and triple jump (Saturday, May 25) while Jackson will be running in the 100m (Thursday) and 200m (Friday).
