Rice Men’s Hoops Slated to Participate in 2019 Islands of the Bahamas Showcase

HOUSTON — The Rice men's basketball team will be one of eight teams that will compete in the 2019 Islands of the Bahamas Showcase, the tournament announced Thursday morning. The event will take place on Nov. 22-24 at the Kendal Isaacs National Gymnasium in Nassau, Bahamas.
In addition to the Owls, other participants in the third annual edition of the event include East Carolina, Evansville, George Washington, Atlantic Sun Champion Liberty, Milwaukee, UMKC and Morgan State.
"We are excited to be part of such a quality field of teams in the 2019 Island of the Bahamas Showcase," said Rice head coach Scott Pera. "We look forward to a challenging three game tournament in one of the world's most beautiful settings. We hope to experience the wonderful culture of the Bahamas while playing against top level competition on the court."
Rice will open the tournament against Milwaukee on Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. CT. The Owls will then face either Liberty or Morgan State on Nov. 23. East Carolina, Evansville, George Washington and UMKC are on the other side of the bracket.

"Hosting this tournament has truly been a team effort between our staff, the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, National Sports Authority, Bahamas Basketball Federation and Baha Mar. From the sapphire blue waters that define The Bahamas to the world-class accommodations at Baha Mar, this event provides an unbelievable experience for the participating teams."
