Recap of 37th annual Victor Lopez Classic
HOUSTON - Rice junior sprinter Hannah Jackson highlighted the third and final day for the Owls at the 37th annual Victor Lopez Classic on Saturday with a victory in the 200m dash. The Sulphur Springs, La. native led start to finish and crossed the finish line in 23.62 to win her second 200m race of the season with a time that ranks first in C-USA and 14th in the nation. In addition, Jackson placed fourth in the 100m dash (11.88) with the sixth-best time in C-USA this year.
On the men's side of the track, Alex Topini established an outdoor PR in the 1500m with a second-place finish of 3:49.93, which ranks 13th in the country while senior Reagan Olguin finished second in the 800m with a PR of 1:49.46, the top time in C-USA.
In field events, Patrick McCoy set a PR in the triple jump with the third-best distance (14.62m) in C-USA this season, finishing second overall. Other second place results in field events included Dane Stolsig in the javelin (60.92m-PR) and Erna Gunnarsdottir (15.39m-16th in NCAA) in the shot put.
The Owls will be back in action next week when they compete at the Texas Relays (men & women; Mar. 27-30) and San Francisco State Carnival (men; Mar. 29-30).
