
WT&F: Trio of Owls Earn All-Conference Honors on Sunday

Fokam sets indoor triple jump school record
BIRMINGHAM, AL - Three more Owls earned C-USA All-Conference honors with a trio of earned silver medals Sunday afternoon on the final day of the Indoor Championships. Redshirt junior sprinter Hannah Jackson (200m), freshman thrower Erna Gunnarsdottir (shot put) and junior jumper Michelle Fokam (triple jump) all placed second in their respective events.
Fokam, who won the long jump title on Saturday, established a new indoor school record in the triple jump by breaking the 26-year-old mark held by former Owl great Claudia Haywood. Fokam's jump of 13.31m (43-08.00) is the eighth-best mark in the NCAA this season.
Jackson earned a total of 12 points on Sunday. She finished second in the 200m in 23.44, just :02 behind Florida Atlantic's Natalliah Whyte (23.42). Jackson earned an additional four points with a fifth place (7.56) result in the 60m dash.
Freshman thrower Gunnarsdottir earned all-conference honors in her first C-USA meet, throwing 15.45m (50-08.25) in the shot put. Southern Miss' Danisha Jones (15.82m) captured the gold with her final throw of the event.
Other Owls earning critical points for the Owls on Sunday were Ryann Helmers (5th-3000m, 9:58.70), Dheryl Batts (8th-shot put, 13.52m), and Mary Claire Neal (8th-mile, 5:01.85).
The Owls finished fourth overall with 65 points and for the weekend garnered all-conference honors in five events.
