Owls to face Oklahoma on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
HOUSTON – For the third time in program history and the first time since 2008, the No. 21 Rice Owls volleyball team has earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
The Owls (26-3) will be a No. 2 seed and face Oklahoma in College Station, Texas on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
No. 1 seed Texas A&M will take on No. 4 seed St. John's in the same regional. The winners will advance to play each other on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
"We're definitely excited to get started and I feel like it's a good matchup," Rice head coach Genny Volpe said. "I've seen Oklahoma play and they've got a good team but I feel like we have a lot of strong pieces too and we should matchup well with them. For us to be able to go to Texas A&M is good for our fans. This team wants to play as long as possible and we want to coach them as long as possible."
The Owls are currently No. 14 in the RPI rankings and will be making their second straight NCAA Tournament appearance and fifth overall, all under Volpe. Rice is the first team from Conference USA to earn an at-large bid since Tulane in 2009.
