Owl Defender Named A C-USA Co-Defender of the Week
Roelfsema helped Rice record its fifth shutout of the season on Sunday (Oct. 6), and third clean slate in C-USA action, as the Owls defeated UAB 1-0 in its lone game of the week. Not only was she was one of only two Owls to play all 90 minutes in the contest, the international standout helped limit the Blazers to just four shots on-goal. Roelfsema shared the league's Defender of the Week award with North Texas' Dominique James.
For the full season Roelfsema has been a fixture in the starting lineup while anchoring a young Rice backline. The native of Den Haag, The Netherlands, leads the Owls in minutes played and has been on the field for 97.8 percent of the team's total time. She is the first Rice player to be named a C-USA Defender of the Week in two years.
The Rice soccer team is 6-4-1 on the season and in sole possession of second place in the C-USA standings with a 3-0-1 league ledger (10 points). Owls next play at league foe Louisiana Tech on Sunday (Oct. 13). Start time against the red-hot Bulldogs (11-1-1, 3-1-0) is set for 1 pm Ruston, La.
