Former Conroe HS assistant
HOUSTON - Rice women's T&F head coach Jim Bevan announced the addition of Justine Charbonnet to his staff on Sunday (Aug. 26), becoming the newest assistant coach for the Owls.
"The opportunity to work with the women's track and field program at Rice University is such a blessing," said Charbonnet. "I believe this experience will challenge me in ways that will uncover the potential I have to make a big impact in the T&F collegiate world."
A graduate of Baylor (2014), Charbonnet was a team-captain for the Bears where she earned All-Big 12 honors in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, as well as the long jump. After excelling collegiately, Charbonnet began teaching and coaching at Conroe High School in 2015. Charbonnet developed skills for both male and female athletes in sprints and horizontal jumps.
The Woodlands, Texas native coached a two-time state qualifier in the triple jump, as well as 2018 regional qualifiers in the 4x100, 4x200, long jump, triple jump, and 800m. During her tenure, Conroe placed third in District 12-6A and Charbonnet earned a nomination for 2017 GCSTCA Assistant Coach of the Year. This past year, Charbonnet was a horizontal jumps presenter at the GCSTCA Coaches Clinic.
"I am so happy we were able to identify and pull Justine into our program," Rice women's T&F head coach Jim Bevan said. "She is a great young coach that will connect and relate well to our young ladies and is a remarkable person with great upside. She was a two-time team captain at Baylor and I think that says a lot about her. In addition, I have watched her coach that last few years and have come away very impressed. I think we have a true rising star in our program to help us."
As an athlete at The Woodlands HS, Charbonnet helped lead her team to four consecutive district team titles and one regional team title. She held TWHS records in 100 meters, 400 meters, 4x100-meter relay, 4x200-meter relay, 4x400-meter relay, sprint medley relay and long jump.
