AUSTIN - Rice graduate Elsa Racasan, a standout on both the cross country and track & field teams, was named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Women's Track/Cross Country First Team, selected by CoSIDA, becoming just the sixth Owl to earn First Team honors.
The organization recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the playing field and in the classroom. To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Racasan, who was also an Academic All-District® honoree last month, maintained a 4.11 GPA while majoring in Kinesiology. The native of Lugrin, France began the year with a ninth place individual finish at the Conference USA Cross Country Championships, earning Second Team All-Conference honors.
Racasan was a member of the Owls' distance medley relay team that placed fourth at the C-USA Indoor Championships and scored points at the Outdoor Championships in the 1500m (fourth) and 5000m (7th) races.
In May, Racasan was selected to the C-USA All-Academic Team for a second straight year and the third time of her career.
