IRVING, Texas - Rice sophomore jumper Michelle Fokam was rewarded for a sensational sophomore campaign by being named the Conference USA Female Field Athlete of the Year, the league office announced on Thursday (June 14).
Fokam joined former Owl Daisy Ding (2015) as the only Owls to ever win a C-USA Field Athlete of the Year award.
The Katy, Texas native competed in the triple jump at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships following a season in which she became just the third athlete in league history to sweep the C-USA long jump and triple jump titles at the outdoor/indoor championships.
Named the C-USA Outdoor Track Performer of the Meet, Fokam was twice named the C-USA Athlete of the Week during the outdoor season. She won the triple jump at the Texas Relays, one of her four victories of the season in the event.
Fokam was also named the C-USA Indoor Field Performer of the Meet and won three long jump competitions during the indoor campaign.
