Fokam, Jackson Earn C-USA Weekly Honors

HOUSTON - Rice sophomores Michelle Fokam and Hannah Jackson were selected the Conference USA Female Athlete of the Week and Track Athlete of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Tuesday.
Fokam continued her stellar outdoor campaign by winning both the triple jump and long jump at the Arkansas Twilight. The sophomore from Katy, Texas reached a mark of 12.71m (41-08.5) to win the triple jump while leaping 6.14m (20-01.75) to take home the long jump title. Fokam has won seven outdoor events (five triple jump/two long jump) and will enter this week's C-USA Outdoor Championships with the top marks in both the triple jump (13.12m) and long jump (6.33m).
Jackson won her fifth event (200m) of the outdoor season with a winning time of 23.31 at the Arkansas Twilight. The sophomore from Sulphur, La. also performed well in the 100m dash, placing fourth with a finish of 11.57. Jackson enters this weekend as the league leader in the 200m (22.97) and is second in the 100m (11.45).
Rice will be hosting the C-USA Outdoor Championships, which will last this Thursday-Sunday at Wendel D. Ley Track.
