IRVING, Texas - Rice sophomores Michelle Fokam and Hannah Jackson were tabbed the Conference USA Outdoor Female Field Performer of the Meet and Track Performer of the Meet, respectively, the league announced on Friday.
A native of Katy, Texas, Fokam was the top female scorer of the meet, earning 21 points for the Owls. Fokam became just the third athlete in C-USA history to complete a sweep of the indoor/outdoor triple jump and long jump titles. Fokam set PR's in both the long jump (6.46m/21-02.50) and triple jump (13.43m/44-00.75), marks that rank 10th (triple jump) and 15th (long jump) currently in the nation. She also competed on the 4x100 relay with Jackson, which placed fifth.
Jackson, from Sulphur, La., totaled 19 points for the Owls, highlighted by a come-from-behind victory in the 100m dash (11.51) for her first career C-USA outdoor title. In addition, Jackson placed second in the 200m dash (23.38) and ran the anchor leg of the 4x100 relay, which set a season-best time of 45.75 seconds and placed fifth overall.
Next weekend (May 24-26), Fokam and Jackson will compete at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Sacramento, Calif. Competitors who place in the top-12 in their respective events will advance to the NCAA National Championships, June 6-9 in Eugene, Ore.
