Rice head men's tennis coach Efe Ustundag announced on Wednesday the addition of Australian standout Campbell Salmon, who will join the Owls in time for the start of the dual season in January.
A native of Melbourne, Australia, Salmon has a career-best ITF Junior ranking of 104 and has a pair of Junior ITF doubles titles to his credit, including one in Chinese Taipei in April of 2017 with current Rice sophomore Sumit Sarkar. He was ranked as high as third in Australia in his age group and has been a part of Tennis Australia's international touring team the last three years.
"We're really excited to have Campbell join us in January and he'll be a great addition to both our singles and doubles lineup." Ustundag said. "He's had some success in Junior ITF tournaments with Sumit, so he has some familiarity with our team. Unlike our two January additions last year (Sarkar and Conrad Russell) I think his adjustment period will be shorter and I look forward to getting him on the courts with the rest of the team in January," he added.
A graduate of Melbourne Grammar School where he also competed in both track and cross country in addition to tennis.
