Abercrumbie To Lead Owls’ Student-Athlete Development Efforts

JP Abercrumbie has been named the new Assistant AD for Student Athlete Development at Rice University and will begin her duties on November 1.
Abercrumbie joins the Owls from Mississippi State University where she served as the Bulldogs Assistant Athletic Director for Life Skills and Community Engagement. She administered the personal and leadership development programs, professional and postgraduate preparation, and community outreach and engagement opportunities supported by the Athletic Department's Pay It Forward initiative. She led the Athletics Diversity Council with Athletic Director John Cohen, served as a mentor for MSU's Day One Leadership Program, and was appointed the inaugural Chair of the MSU Office of Institutional Diversity & Inclusion's Young Professionals Affinity Group, among other campus service.
A 2017 selection into the NCAA's prestigious Dr. Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute, Abercrumbie devotes her time to the advancement of several NCAA Leadership Development programs and Women Leaders in College Sports initiatives.
She was honored this past year with the Mississippi State Diversity Award by the President's Commission on the Status of Minorities
Abercrumbie originally joined the MSU staff in July of 2015 as Life Skills Coordinator after serving for two years as a Student-Athlete Development Coordinator and Academic Coach at the University of California, Berkeley.
A Chicagoland native, Abercrumbie attended Temple University where she competed in track and field and graduated Cum Laude studying linguistic anthropology. She holds a Master's degree in the Cultural Studies of Sport in Education from the University of California, Berkeley and completed the Athlete Development Professional Certification Program from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Abercrumbie has also served as an Executive Advisory Board member for the Institute for Chicagoland Player Personal Development, a contributor to Front Office Sports and is a USATF certified official.
