Preview: Owls Set to Host Louisiana Tech Sunday

Match begins at 1 p.m.
HOUSTON - The Rice Owls volleyball team closes out their three match homestand at Tudor Fieldhouse this Sunday (1 p.m.) when they host the Louisiana Tech Lady Techsters. Rice (16-4, 7-0) sits alone in first place in the Conference USA standings and will be looking for their 11th straight win overall.

The Lady Techsters have lost six straight matches overall heading into their home contest vs. UTEP on Friday. Tech is hitting just .164 as a team this season and are led in kills by Kaitlyn Adams (190).

The Owls hit the road for a critical C-USA showdown vs. second place UTSA on Friday, Oct. 26 (7 p.m.) in San Antonio. Rice defeated the Roadrunners in four sets earlier this year at Tudor Fieldhouse. Rice will then travel on to El Paso to face UTEP on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m.

- The Owls jumped up to No. 21 (previously No. 23) in the latest VolleyballMag.com's Mid-Major Top 25 Poll. Rice is also the highest ranked C-USA team in the Pablo Rankings, coming in at No. 41.
- In the latest NCAA RPI rankings the Owls are ranked 34th, the highest in C-USA
- Junior libero Lee Ann Cunningham was named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday (10/15). The Louisville, Ky. native helped the Owls extend their season-long win streak to 10 straight with a pair victories over the weekend. Cunningham totaled 40 digs over eight sets (5.0 per set) and registered her first double-double of the season in Friday's 3-2 comeback victory over Marshall.
- During league play, the Owls lead C-USA in hitting percentage (.299), opponents hitting percentage (.163), kills per set (15.3) and digs per set (18.9).
- As a team the Owls rank top-20 in the nation in assists per set (13.6-10th), digs per set (18.18-11th), kills per set (14.57-9th), team digs (1,400-18th) and team kills (1,122-18th).
