The Rice women's tennis team shook off the loss of a tiebreaker in doubles to race to a 4-1 win over Marshall at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Sunday.
The match's opening point came down to a battled between a pair of ranked duos at the first line. Rice's Lindsey Hodge and Wendy Zhang, who are currently ranked 65th, fell to The Herd's 88th Derya Turhan and Anna Pomyatinskaya, 8-6 to give Marshall a 1-0 lead.
But the Owls served immediate noticed that the early setback did not carry over into singles as they took first sets on all six courts. Katherine Ip quickly tied the match with a 6-0, 6-3 on court two, and Alison Ho, Zhang and Savannah Durkin followed in succession to give the Owls (14-5) their fifth consecutive win and run their home record to 10-0.
"I was really pleased the way the team rebounded after the doubles point," Rice head coach Elizabeth Schmidt said. "They stepped up and took care of business on all six courts. It was a really good team effort, focused and disciplined."
The Owls will wrap up the 2017 regular season on next Saturday when they host Louisiana Tech at 11 a.m. as part of Senior Day activities.
