IRVING, Texas - Rice senior setter Madison McDaniel was named the Conference USA Setter of the Week while sophomore teammate Grace Morgan earned C-USA Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
McDaniel, from the Woodlands, Texas, recorded her fourth and fifth double-doubles of the season over the weekend, helping guide the Owls to a pair of wins. In the Owls' 3-2 win over Florida Atlantic, McDaniel dished out 50 assists to go along with 12 digs. She followed that performance by stuffing the box score in Sunday's sweep over FIU with 36 assists, 19 digs, 5 kills and 3.0 blocks in just three sets. For the weekend, McDaniel averaged 10.75 assists per set. The award is McDaniel's seventh career C-USA Setter of the Week honor.
Morgan, from Crowley, La., won her second C-USA award in the last three weeks after winning the Offensive Player of the Week back on Sept. 25. Morgan collected 13.0 blocks in eight sets (1.62 per set) and now leads all C-USA players with 29 total blocks during league play. In addition to her defensive prowess, Morgan led the Owls with 28 kills on the weekend while hitting .521.
Winners of four straight and nine of their last 10, the Owls hit the road for a pair of C-USA matches this weekend beginning at Marshall on Oct. 13 before traveling to UAB on Oct. 15. The Owls return home to Houston on Oct. 20 when they host UTSA.
