
Penchyna Highights Invite Action

Freshman Gerardo Penchyna picked up a pair of singles wins to highlight action for Rice in the first day of the Rice Men's Tennis Fall Invitational at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Friday.
Penchyna outlasted Gabriel Niculescu of Troy 6-2, 7-6 (5) in his opening match of the B singles flight and then cam e back to down Xavier Lawrence of Prairie View, 6-1, 6-2 to advance to the flight's semifinal. He will face Tulane's Jonathan Star on Saturday.
Junior Jamie Malik won his opening match in the A singles flight, dropping Sebastian Mortier of Incarnate Word, 6-2, 6-2. He dropped his second round match to Army's Grant Riechmann, 6-2, 7-5.
Henrik Munch bounced back from an opening round loss to Mustapha Belcora of Troy to down Nedim Ahmic of Incarnate Word, 6-3, 6-3.
Play continued at the GRBTC beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
