Rice juniors Tommy Bennett and David Warren's late-season run of success earned the pair the highest ranking for a Rice doubles team since 2006 as the final Oracle ITA College Tennis rankings were released on Wednesday.
Bennett and Warren moved up two spots in the final tabulations to finish 27th in the nation, the highest ranking for a Rice doubles team since 2006 when Robert Searle and Tony Hearle finished the season ranked 19th.
They defeated four ranked doubles teams down the stretch, including three in the top 25, capping that stretch with a 6-3 defeat of LSU's sixth-ranked Jordan Daigle/Boris Arias in the opening round of the NCAA team championship.
They became the first Rice doubles team to reach the NCAA Doubles tournament since 2008 where the dropped a three-set battle with Tennessee's Luis Valero and Jack Schipanski, who ended the year ranked 22nd.
