COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Rice junior Daisy Ding won the triple jump on her final attempt on the final day of the Charlie Thomas Invitational Saturday afternoon on the campus of Texas A&M.
Needing to beat 12.54m on her final attempt, Ding won gold with a jump of 12.74m (41-09.75) to defeat UTEP's Nickevea Wilson. The victory was Ding's second this season and fourth of her indoor career in the triple jump. Ding's mark is now good enough for third in C-USA this season.
Other highlight performances from the Owls on Saturday included second place finishes by Cali Roper (3000m-9:39.41) and Belle MacFarlane (high jump-1.70m). Roper established a new indoor PR and was just three seconds off UTEP's Winny Koech.
As a team the Owls placed sixth overall out of 12 teams with 52 scored points, finishing ahead of both Houston and TCU.
