Fifth seeds Lindsey Hodge and Wendy Zhang could not overcome the impact of an ankle injury to Zhanag and were eliminated in the second round of doubles qualifying at the 2016 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California on Wednesday.
Zhang suffered the injury while grinding out a comeback win over Northwestern's Maddie Lipp in Tuesday night's singles consolation round, but reported to the court on Wednesday at noon to join Hodge in facing Texas A&M's Rachel Pierson and Rutuja Bhosale.
The Owls' duo did not go quietly, falling 8-5. Zhang then withdrew from her consolation singles match to close the book on the Owls activity in the 2016 event.
